Welcome to Tacos El Rey

General Info

If you’re driving along South Meridian Road and craving something bold and satisfying, Tacos El Rey is the kind of Mexican restaurant that immediately feels worth the stop. From the moment you pull into the wheelchair accessible parking lot, everything about the place feels straightforward and welcoming-no fuss, just good food done right.

The menu leans into authentic flavors, and what stood out most during my visit was the Cabeza Beef Cheek. It’s tender, rich, and packed with deep, slow-cooked flavor that practically melts as you eat it. Whether tucked into tacos or served as part of a plate, this dish alone makes the location memorable. It’s the kind of item you don’t just order once-you come back for it.

What I appreciated most is how the restaurant balances quick service with quality. If you’re on a tight schedule, it’s perfect for a quick bite, but it also works just as well for a relaxed lunch or casual dinner. The small plates option makes it easy to try a bit of everything, which is ideal if you’re exploring the menu for the first time. I found myself mixing and matching, building a meal that felt both personal and satisfying.

The atmosphere is simple, but that’s part of the charm. It feels like a place where the focus stays on the food rather than distractions. Reviews often highlight the consistency here, and after visiting, it’s easy to see why. Every bite feels intentional, and nothing comes across as rushed or careless.

Another thing worth noting is how accessible and approachable the entire experience is. From the parking to the service flow, everything is designed to be easy. That kind of attention matters, especially when you just want a smooth, no-hassle meal.

Overall, Tacos El Rey fits perfectly into the local dining scene in Meridian. It’s a spot where authentic Mexican flavors meet convenience, making it just as appealing for a quick stop as it is for a full meal. The combination of a well-thought-out menu, standout dishes like the Cabeza Beef Cheek, and reliable service makes it a place you’ll likely add to your regular rotation without much hesitation.

What customers say?

“ Best mexican food in town! I've never been disappointed with anything on their menu. All the burritos are amazing and I highly recommend their quesadillas. The asada and El pastor are amazing! ”

- Daniel Hildebrandt -

“ The food here is really good, the avocado salsa and homemade fluffy corn tortillas were very well flavored. This taco stand is tucked away behind a gas station next to a plant nursery if you don't look you won't find the taco truck . Tacos are $2.75 and tortas are $8 ”

- Stacy Dutt -

“ One of the best Mexican street food trucks in Boise/Meridian area. The staff is always super friendly, and the food is awesome for the right price. My favorite is the super burrito! So goooood. ”

- Amanda -

“ I really like the food here. I don’t go a lot but when I do, I’m always very satisfied. Some other reviews negatively comment on friendliness, atmosphere and parking. None of those are what I expect. It’s an outside food truck and they are always busy for lunch. Be patient and enjoy the great food. ”

- Bruce Chadwick -

“ Good Al Pastor and Carnitas. Pretty busy around Lunch so it takes a little while, but it's worth the wait. Good salsa and good amount of cilantro and onions. Two tortillas per taco ”

- Matthew Pfeiffer (VA Loan Specialist) -

“ One of the best if not the best taco trucks around. The food is always great. ”

- Keith Thomson -

“ This taco truck offers authentic Mexican food at a great price. I was craving some tacos so I set out and googled tacos near me, this came up first so i gave it a try. I am used to authentic Mexican food and boy did my tacos and tostada hit the spot. The asada is well seasoned and is extra tasty. Tortillas were so perfect, in fact everything was on point. Will certainly be back. The meal below cost ~$6 at time of posting. ”

- Dylan Ho -

“ Went into the gas station looking for some crap food. Found one of the best burritos I've had in Boise. Got a super burrito w/ pork. Absolutely delicious, only complaint was it was not very warm but it didn't even matter. If they offer red or green salsa, get both. So good. Great portion, great price. Eat here. ”
